It is then helpful to know how to jump-start the battery using another vehicle. The front ends of both vehicles need to be as close together as possible. Position them nose to nose or side by side. Make sure both vehicles are turned off and put in park. Open the hoods. Put the positive cable connector on the positive post of the dead battery. Connect the other positive connector to the helper vehicle's battery. Repeat the same process with the negative battery cables.
Start the good vehicle and allow the engine to run for about three minutes before trying to start your vehicle. If the vehicle does not start, check to make sure the cables are securely fastened to the batteries. Corrosion on the battery posts might also cause a problem. After making any corrections, start the helper vehicle again and let it run for up to 10 minutes before starting your vehicle.
